- Definition and core structure
Mineral insulated cable (MI cable for short) is a special cable with inorganic mineral materials (such as magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide) as the insulation layer.
Its typical structure includes:
Conductor: high-purity copper core (annealed copper), good electrical conductivityand can withstand high current density.
Insulation layer: densely filled magnesium oxide powder (or mica tape wrapping), temperature resistance up to 1000℃, non-flammable, no release of toxic gases, safe materials, and environmentally friendly.
Protective sheath: copper, aluminum or stainless steel metal sheath, with both mechanical protection and grounding functions, some models are coated with polyolefin and other fire-resistant coatings to enhance corrosion resistance, suitable for special environments, and extend its service life. - Working principle
Current transmission and insulation protection When current passes through the copper conductor, the magnesium oxide insulation layer prevents current leakage through its high dielectric strength (≥20kV/mm), and remains stable even in high temperature or humid environments.
Fire prevention and high temperature resistance mechanism --
High temperature resistance: The melting point of magnesium oxide reaches 2800℃, which can maintain the integrity of the line for more than 3 hours in a fire, ensuring the power supply of emergency equipment.
Heat conduction: The metal sheath quickly dissipates heat to avoid losses caused by local overheating. At the same time, the thermal expansion coefficient of magnesium oxide is similar to that of copper, preventing the insulation layer from cracking. - Core advantages
Special environmental adaptability --
Temperature range: -40℃ to 1000℃ continuous operation (short-term up to 1083℃ copper melting point).
Corrosion resistance: The galvanized steel sheath has passed the salt spray test and is suitable for offshore platforms and chemical areas.
Safety redundancy design: The metal sheath can be used as a grounding wire to reduce the number of lines, and has passed the IEC 60332 flame retardant certification, increasing the safety factor and ensuring equipment safety.
